Grand Commander – 2021-2022

Sir Knight Robb Mitchell was raised on a farm in central Illinois, attended Springfield High School, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in British History from the University of Illinois in 1994. He joined the Illinois Army National Guard in 1989 to pay for college, then served as US Regular Army Officer for over 25 years, retiring in 2019. He now works as a financial advisor for Military Veterans and Brother Masons.

While in the Army, Brother Mitchell was stationed stateside in Oklahoma, New York, Illinois, Kansas, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC and overseas in Korea, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. He spent his first 16 years on active duty as a Field Artillery Officer, and the last 9 1/2 years as a Force Management Officer, attaining the rank of Colonel. Along the way he earned a Master of Arts in 20th Century American Diplomacy from the University of Illinois – Chicago, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. 

Brother Mitchell was “Raised” in Hancock Lodge #311, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in 2006 while attending the US Army’s Command and General Staff College. He affiliated with Freedom Military Lodge #1775 in the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia in 2012, where he served as the Worshipful Master 2017-2019, and currently serves as the Lodge Secretary. Brother Mitchell received the Scottish Rite degrees and was “Elevated” to 32° Master of the Royal Secret in the Orient of Kansas in 2007, affiliated with the Valley of Washington in 2011, where he began service with the DC Chapter of the Knights of Saint Andrew, and served as the KSA Chieftain in 2015. He served as the assistant director and director of the 29th Degree, Knight of Saint Andrew on several occasions, and on the DC Scottish Rite Americanism Committee since 2013. He was “Invested” as a Knight Commander Court of Honor in 2015, served as Commander of the Robert de Bruce Council of Kadosh in 2018, and currently serves as the Chairman of the KCCH Club. Brother Mitchell joined the National Sojourners in 2011, received the Heroes of 1776 degree in 2012, served as Commander of Light Horse Harry Lee Camp in 2014-2015, and President of Old Dominion Chapter #364 in Fairfax, Virginia in 2017-2018. He joined Almas Shrine in the District of Columbia in 2018.

Sir Knight Mitchell received the York Rite degrees in Maryland in 2011, culminating the Order of the Temple in the Grand Commandery of Maryland. He affiliated with Columbia Commandery #2 in the Grand Commandery of the District of Columbia in 2012, and there served as the Eminent Commander in 2015-16. He was elected to the bottom of the Grand Line in 2016 and was honored as a Knight Commander of the Temple in 2018. Sir Knight Mitchell became a Knight Preceptor in 2019 and was installed as the Right Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery of the District of Columbia in 2021.

Brother Mitchell married his college classmate, the former Susan Stoltz in 1997, and they have a son and daughter. His hobbies include traveling, sports, military history and all things history, genealogy, finance, reading and seeking more light.
