SK George S. Nicol, Right Eminent Grand Commander

George Samuel Nicol was born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, West Africa. He did his primary and secondary education in Freetown, Sierra Leone. After completing of his education in Sierra Leone he emigrated to the United States of America to pursue his college education. He attended the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg Virginia, where he obtained his Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and later at Catholic University, Washington DC with a Master degree in Civil Engineering. He is a Licensed Professional Engineering.
George started his Masonic Journey at Lodge Tranquility1446 S.C. in Freetown, Sierra Leone on February 4, 1984. Since he was living in the United States of America at that time, the Grand Lodge of Scotland requested that the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia perform the remaining degrees as a courtesy, but this was denied for several reasons and he had to go New York to get the remaining degrees in 1984.
After the completion of the Master Mason degree, he was able with the help of some revered masons to affiliate to Albert Pike lodge #33. He was the first man of Color to be a member of the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia FAAM and was also very instrumental in the formation of Sojourner Kilwining Lodge No. 1798 in 1992 of which he was the Primus Secretary and later The Right Worshipful Master in 2000. He is also a Past Master of Albert Pike Lodge # 33 and Joppa Lodge #35. He also served the Grand Lodge in various capacities -Assistant Grand Lodge Chaplain, Grand Sword Bearer and Grand Standard Bearer. Presently he is the treasurer at Sojourner Kilwinning Lodge 1798, Sojourner Kilwinning Chapter No. 17 and the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of the District of Columbia. He is also the Secretary of Joppa lodge No. 35 and Trustee of Albert Pike No. 33. He is a Past Thrice Illustrious Master of Adoniram Zabbud Council, Past Zerubbabel Sojourner Kilwinning Chapter No. 17, Past Commander of Columbia Commandery No. 2 and a 33º Mason of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Washington, Orient of the District of Columbia and Past Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of the District of Columbia.
